A huge week with the AFL injury list and team selection means a lot of movement for Ultimate Footy and draft league coaches. Key players are out for long periods and players rested, here’s our guide to what to do this week.
Daniel Cross: Cross has been dropped from a very inexperienced Bulldogs lineup. Expect to see him back in the side very soon, Owned in 94% of UF leagues and averaging 85.6, he is a fairly consistent performer and again, will be back soon.
Beau Waters: Hold on to this man, he is an elite defender and even though listed as having a quad injury, it is widely believed he is being rested against GWS. Owned in 97% of leagues at an average UF draft position of 63, he’s hot property and averaging 85, he will be snapped up very quickly.
Matthew Wright: Wright has been dropped this week, which makes one wonder whether it is form related. Wright has struggled in two of his last three games, scoring 26, 103, 45 in his last three matches after a consistent start to the year, leaving his average for the season at 71.5. He will be a good scorer for you when he comes back into the team and will be taken quickly if you let go of him. Owned in 90% of leagues and taken at an ADP of 87.3, look for his name on your bench this weekend.
Adam Cooney: Averaging 87.6 this season, we are seeing Cooney finally play without too much disturbance in his knees. A hamstring injury has him out for a few weeks, but the 91% of leagues with a coach that owns him should give him a few weeks on the bench. He will come back strongly after the bye rounds.
Dayne Beams: After sitting out the first eight rounds of the season, Beams has been confirmed to be out for another six weeks. I used my first round draft pick on Beams and have had him on my bench all season, because we all know the impact he can have. The season is 23 rounds long, and knowing he won’t be available until round 15 is a major worry for fantasy coaches. Also, quad injuries tend to be recurrent, as shown by Zaharakis at the start of the season and Beams consistently getting setbacks after being said to be ready for round three with this injury. A tough call, but he is taking up a spot on your list and if you hold him to round 23 only for him to not play, you’ll be very disappointed.
Zac Smith: This ruckman is owned in 72% of Ultimate Footy leagues, and is now out for the whole season. Losing Smith means you’ll have to find a new ruckman, which could mean having to settle for somebody who’s a second stringer at their club, or not even guaranteed a game. A real shame for those who own him.
Dale Thomas: Another impact player the pies have lost this year who would’ve been a great pickup for your Ultimate Footy team. Owned in 81% of leagues, and averaging 75.2 including a game coming on as sub, he is a big loss for those with him in their team. Initially it was believed to be a two-week injury, but the Magpies have sent him for surgery and there are reports that he is out for about 12 weeks now. Sack him and find a good replacement, not worth holding on to without a guaranteed return this season.
Sharrod Wellingham: Out for an expected seven weeks with an ankle injury in his third game back from injury. Taken at an average of 121.6 in the UF draft and owned in 75% of teams, Wellingham mightn’t see much more game time this season. Drop him from your team as there are plenty of other players out there which you can get.
