Here are Roto Footy’s recommended settings for AFL draft fantasy on Ultimate Footy.
There are two scoring options available – category or points based. Category based scoring is where teams go head to head on different statistical categories. By winning more statistical categories over your opponent will be your claim to victory on a week to week basis. Points based scoring is where point values are assigned to specific statistical categories. Players in starting positions will accumulate points based on their value. The team that has the most points at the end of the round wins. Team selection strategies are very much dependent on the type of scoring type that a league uses. For example, if you play in a category scoring draft league, players that are able to score well in a broad range of categories are the most valuable. In points based scoring there isn’t the same emphasis on individual categories, it’s more about the highest amount of points. In a category based league owners are going to care about individual stats. A player who averages more tackles than another per game can be a deciding factor.
We recommend points based scoring. By default Ultimate Footy uses the AFL Fantasy (DreamTeam) scoring.
Team Lineup Settings
Ultimate Footy will suggest lineup sizes based on the amount of teams in a league. Although, this is completely editable. Remember the scores of bench players are not used. These guys should be there to cover injuries and byes. Utility players can be allowed as starters and any position can be used as a utility. This is similar to a flex position in NFL fantasy. A good rule of thumb, the more owners in the league the smaller team sizes. We also recommend turning emergencies off.
The Ultimate Footy standard scoring setting is the same as AFL Fantasy by default. This can be customised. If this is customised, draft strategies will change. If goals are worth more than six points then high goal kickers will have a lot more value. Most leagues will probably use the default AFL Fantasy scoring.

If you’re going to struggle to get everyone online at the same time then you will want to use the offline draft. This is a much longer and tedious process so you will need to begin your draft quite some time before the season begins to ensure it gets completed. Under no circumstances will you want to use an autopick draft. An online draft is the best option if your in a league with friends. A slow online or offline draft works best if there isn’t a designated draft night.
